CSIS's Role in Interviewing Afghan Detainees
Subject
SIRC report
Description
CSIS's review body, the Security Intelligence Review Committee (SIRC) conduct a review of CSIS's involvement
in the interviewing of Afghan detainees during the Canadian Armed Forces mission to Afghanistan. SIRC noted two issues that warranted further consideration: first, the need for CSIS to assess and to qualify, with care and consistency, information
originating from agencies that may engage in human rights abuses; and second, the need for CSIS to ensure that the management of its operations abroad mirrors, to the
extent practicable, the standard of accountability and professionalism that is set and maintained domestically.
